grinding on this senior show and trying to keep spirits high. of course there is still a great deal of confusion around the event, but as long as people keep a good attitude towards the show i know it will be dope. wednesday we start construction, thursday we put up the work, and friday we open the doors and drink the free beer. saturday is going to the best.

this week is heavy printing production. i’ve completed half of the inserts so far, now it’s on to the frosted mylar sleeves.

here’s a series of beats i made using the film scores from the brothers quay. this helped me get a better idea of how the tracks for ‘justbouthere’ can be arranged. check it out, then go watch the quay films. bananas.

upon special request, here are the seperated tracks from the ‘justbouthere” mix. i’m still playing with them in relation to one another. i’m focused on making a distinct transition from one piece to the next, using my daily commute as a reference. thinking of these tracks as passing sounds that exist within a given trek.

took this album out for a walk today and was pretty impressed. oval aka markus popp put together an interesting collage of heavily processed signals and creates a great sense of rhythm with almost no percussion. i don’t think i heard one kick or snare, but the tracks keep the head nodding. at times i wished there were some raw/sloppy/crunchy/backbreaking drum patterns, but half the fun of this record was filling it in with my imagination (thanks, sesame street)

i’ll be looking/listening back to this record to better craft the element of subtle percussion and providing rhythm without the standard kit.

flying lotus has a new lp dropping next month. heard a couple snippet tracks and can wait to crack the wax open.

while painting yuriko’s apartment last weekend, kitakiya and i started messing around with the pigeonbread logo. i took photos of the painted/unpainted logo and played around with it in photoshop. this won’t replace the original, but it will be incorporated in the final 7 inch print. big up, kitakiya on the non-digital formats.
